Installing a Safe and Compliant LPG Gas Supply System

At this residential property in Quakers Hill, the homeowner required a new LPG gas supply setup to operate a customer-supplied gas appliance safely and reliably. The project involved installing a dedicated LPG bottle station, running a short gas service line, and commissioning the appliance in accordance with Australian gas installation standards.

LPG installations require careful planning and compliance checks because gas systems must be correctly isolated, regulated, and tested before they can be safely used.

Our team was engaged to design and install the LPG bottle station, connect the appliance, and ensure the entire system met safety and certification requirements.

This type of work forms part of our LPG Gas Installation, Gas Appliance Connection, and Gas Plumbing Services.

Installing the LPG Bottle Station

The first stage of the project involved constructing a dedicated LPG bottle station outside the property.

Bottle stations provide a secure and compliant location for LPG cylinders, ensuring they are properly supported, protected, and accessible for future replacement or maintenance.

We supplied and installed a concrete slab base to create a stable mounting surface for the bottles. The station was then fitted with securing chains and mounting hooks so the LPG cylinders could be safely restrained.

Proper bottle restraint is essential because gas cylinders must remain upright and secure to prevent accidental movement or damage to the gas connections.

Installing a purpose-built bottle station improves safety and ensures the installation meets gas compliance requirements.

Running the LPG Gas Service Line

With the bottle station in place, the next step was installing the gas service line connecting the LPG bottles to the appliance.

A new gas pipe was installed from the bottle station to the appliance location, which was positioned approximately 1.2 metres from the existing gas line.

Short gas runs like this still require careful installation to ensure correct pipe sizing, pressure delivery, and safe connection points.

Before connecting the appliance, the gas service was isolated and the line was purged. Purging removes any air from the pipework so that only gas remains in the system when it is brought online.

This step is critical for ensuring stable ignition and proper appliance operation.

Installing Isolation Valves and Flexible Connections

To allow safe control of the gas supply, we supplied and installed a new gas ball valve at the appliance connection point.

Isolation valves allow the gas supply to be quickly shut off during maintenance, appliance replacement, or emergencies.

A flexible gas connection was then installed between the isolation valve and the stove. Flexible connectors help accommodate minor movement of appliances while maintaining a secure and leak-free connection.

These components ensure the system can be safely operated and easily serviced in the future.

Connecting and Commissioning the Gas Appliance

Once the pipework and valves were installed, the customer-supplied gas appliance was connected to the system.

After installation, we conducted a full commissioning process to ensure the appliance was receiving gas at the correct pressure and operating safely.

Commissioning included checking gas flow, confirming ignition performance, and verifying that all connections were secure.

Gas Safety Testing and Compliance Certification

Gas installations must always be tested before being placed into service.

Our team performed pressure testing and leak detection checks across the new installation to confirm the gas line and connections were operating safely.

After successful testing, a Gas Compliance Certificate was issued for the installation and associated gas alterations.

Compliance certification confirms that the work meets Australian gas safety standards and provides documentation for the homeowner’s records.

In some situations, additional testing of the wider gas system may be recommended to confirm there are no pre-existing leaks elsewhere in the property’s gas infrastructure.

Why Proper LPG Installation Matters

LPG systems can provide an efficient and flexible gas supply for homes that are not connected to natural gas networks.

However, gas installations must be completed correctly to ensure:

• safe gas pressure delivery
• secure appliance connections
• proper isolation controls
• compliance with gas safety regulations

Professional installation ensures that LPG bottle stations and connected appliances operate reliably and safely over the long term.

If you’re planning to install a new LPG system or connect a gas appliance, working with licensed gas plumbers ensures the installation meets all required safety standards.
