Absorption Trench & Stormwater Drainage Installation – Epping
A homeowner in Epping contacted Pure Plumbing Professionals after ongoing issues with surface water and poor drainage around the property. During heavy rainfall, water was pooling and not dispersing naturally, increasing the risk of runoff, soil saturation, and long-term moisture problems around the home.
To improve drainage and reduce pressure on the existing stormwater system, we designed and installed a stormwater upgrade using multiple absorption trenches. This approach allows excess water to filter back into the ground rather than overwhelming stormwater pipes.
Our team began by marking out the absorption trench locations and assessing ground levels to ensure the system would function correctly. We then excavated three absorption trenches, each measuring 6000mm × 500mm × 1000mm, and exposed the existing stormwater pipework.
An additional overflow line was installed to the rear left-hand side of the property to safely manage excess water during heavy rain events. New PVC drainage connections were installed to each absorption trench, including inspection openings to allow for future access and maintenance.
All trenches were lined with geotextile fabric before installing three jumbo arches in a parallel configuration. The trenches were then backfilled with 20mm aggregate, with the arches and aggregate fully wrapped in geotextile fabric. This setup allows water to disperse efficiently while preventing soil and debris from entering the system.
Once the drainage system was installed, the remaining trenches were backfilled with soil, and approximately 15m² of new turf was supplied and installed to reinstate the affected areas.
To ensure the full stormwater system was operating correctly, we carried out high-pressure water jetting and a CCTV inspection of the existing main stormwater lines. The system was then fully tested and commissioned to confirm correct flow and performance.
All work areas were cleaned, and all rubbish was removed from the site upon completion.
