Repairing Sewer Drainage, Upgrading Kitchen Pipework and Rebuilding Taps
Our team attended a property in North Rocks to complete a combination of drainage and plumbing repair works, including sectional drain relining, kitchen sink drainage upgrades, and tap servicing. The project involved resolving underground pipe damage caused by tree root intrusion while also improving the performance of internal plumbing fixtures throughout the home.
For this project, Pure Plumbing Professionals carried out targeted Pipe Relining works, upgraded kitchen drainage connections, and rebuilt existing tapware rather than replacing the full assemblies. This type of combined plumbing work is common in homes where multiple smaller issues begin developing at the same time.
Why Tree Roots Commonly Damage Sewer Pipes
Tree roots are one of the leading causes of underground sewer problems in residential properties.
Roots naturally seek out moisture and are often drawn toward sewer pipes because joints and older pipe sections can release small amounts of water vapour into the surrounding soil.
Once roots find an entry point, they continue growing inside the pipe and can begin causing:
- Slow drainage
- Recurring blocked drains
- Gurgling fixtures
- Wastewater surcharge
- Structural damage to the pipe itself
Many homeowners initially notice symptoms inside the house long before they realise the issue is actually underground.
This is why modern Drainage Repairs often begin with investigation and access improvements before permanent repair methods such as Pipe Relining are completed.
Why Sectional Pipe Relining Was Used
For this North Rocks project, sectional Pipe Relining was used to repair a localised section of sewer pipe affected by root intrusion.
Unlike full pipe replacement, sectional relining allows a specific damaged area to be repaired internally without replacing the entire drainage line.
The process works by inserting a resin-saturated liner into the damaged section of pipe. Once positioned correctly, the liner is inflated against the internal pipe wall and left to cure. After curing, it forms a new structural pipe surface inside the existing line.
This method is particularly effective when:
- Damage is isolated to a specific section
- Excavation access is limited
- The surrounding pipe remains structurally suitable
- A less disruptive repair method is preferred
At Pure Plumbing Professionals, sectional Pipe Relining is commonly used for targeted sewer repairs where tree roots have compromised sections of underground drainage.
Excavation and Installation of a New Inspection Opening
To access the affected drainage line, excavation was carried out within the rear walkway area.
Excavation allows plumbers to expose underground pipework safely and gain direct access to the drainage system for repair works.
During this stage of the project, a new inspection opening was also installed.
Inspection openings are important because they provide future access for:
- CCTV Drain Inspection
- Drain Cleaning
- Maintenance and servicing
- Clearing future blockages if required
Adding proper maintenance access is an important part of long-term Drainage Solutions, especially in older systems where future inspection may be needed.
Once the relining was completed, the repaired pipework was concrete supported, the excavation was backfilled, and the surrounding area was reinstated.
Kitchen Sink Drainage Repairs and Pipework Upgrades
In addition to the sewer repair works, the kitchen sink drainage system was upgraded.
The existing insinkerator unit was removed, and new double bowl sink drainage pipework was installed.
Kitchen sink drainage systems often require modification over time due to:
- Ageing waste fittings
- Poor drainage flow
- Leaks beneath sinks
- Changes to sink or appliance layouts
For this project, new sink plug and waste fittings were installed to improve drainage performance and provide reliable operation beneath the kitchen sink.
Proper Kitchen Plumbing installation is important because poorly configured sink drainage can contribute to slow flow, odours, or recurring leaks beneath cabinetry.
Rebuilding Existing Tapware Instead of Replacing It
The project also included servicing and rebuilding existing hot and cold tap sets.
Rather than replacing the entire tap assemblies, the internal components were rebuilt using new:
- Stainless steel seats
- Tap valves
- O-rings
- Fibre gaskets
The tap stems were also lubricated before reassembly.
Tap rebuilding is often a practical solution when the external tapware remains in good condition but the internal components have worn over time.
Common signs that taps require servicing include:
- Dripping taps
- Stiff handles
- Difficulty shutting taps off completely
- Noisy operation
At Pure Plumbing Professionals, Tap Repairs and servicing are commonly used to extend the lifespan of quality tapware while restoring smooth operation.
Testing and Commissioning the Plumbing System
After all drainage and plumbing works were completed, the entire system was tested and commissioned.
This included:
- Testing the relined drainage section for correct flow
- Checking kitchen sink drainage performance
- Testing rebuilt taps for leaks and smooth operation
- Confirming all plumbing fixtures were functioning correctly
Final testing is an important step because it confirms the system is operating properly after repairs and upgrades have been completed.
What Most Homeowners Don’t Realise About Drainage Problems
Many homeowners assume blocked drains are isolated issues, but recurring drainage problems often indicate structural damage inside the pipe.
Tree roots can continue growing inside sewer lines for years before major symptoms appear. By the time drainage becomes slow or wastewater begins backing up, the pipe may already be damaged internally.
Similarly, older kitchen plumbing and tapware may continue operating inefficiently long before obvious leaks develop.
This is why professional diagnosis and targeted repairs are important parts of maintaining long-term plumbing performance.
When Pipe Relining and Drainage Repairs Are Recommended
Sectional Pipe Relining and drainage upgrades are commonly used when:
- Tree roots have entered the sewer line
- Drainage problems continue returning
- Underground pipe sections are damaged
- Full excavation replacement is unnecessary
Kitchen drainage upgrades and Tap Repairs are also commonly carried out during broader plumbing maintenance works to improve overall fixture performance throughout the property.
