A homeowner in Hornsby contacted Pure Plumbing Professionals to install a rainwater tank as a practical way to reuse roof runoff and reduce reliance on mains water. Like many homeowners, they wanted a reliable system that could supply water for the garden and outdoor use while managing roof drainage effectively during heavy rainfall.

Our team began by setting up all required equipment, materials, and safety barriers to ensure a safe and efficient installation. We then supplied and installed a 660-litre rainwater tank (0.94 m high × 1.43 m long × 0.71 m wide), positioned to suit the existing roof layout and available space.
Two roof catchment areas were connected to the tank via new gutters and downpipes. To suit these collection points, we supplied and installed four new gutters with downpipes, ensuring effective water capture from the roof. The downpipes were connected to the tank inlet using appropriate fittings and leaf strainers to help prevent debris from entering the system.
To manage excess water during heavy rainfall, we excavated and installed approximately 12 metres of overflow drainage, connecting it to the existing stormwater system near the location of the previous rainwater tank. This ensures safe discharge and protects the surrounding area from pooling or overflow issues.
A rainwater pump was then supplied and installed, complete with an outlet line for garden and external water use. A new hose tap was connected to the pump outlet, providing easy access to rainwater for everyday outdoor needs.
Once installation was complete, all trenches were backfilled and site levels restored. The system was fully tested and commissioned to confirm correct operation, leak-free connections, and effective overflow performance. All work areas were cleaned, leaving the property tidy and ready to use.
